Health Services The Health Services function includes conducting inspections at local restaurants, area daycare centers that prepare food on site, public and semi-public swimming pools, and addressing mosquito and rodent control problems in the city. The overall goal of Health Services is to be proactive and demonstrate a presence in those areas, which are critical to protecting the public health. Health Services also focuses on providing education for local food establishments as it relates to food handling and preparation. For more information click here FOOD INSPECTION PROGRAM The City of Duncanville adopted the Texas Food Establishment Rules in January 2000. These rules serve as the bases for all food establishment inspection reports. Detailed food inspections are conducted every three (3) months in many establishments and more frequently in those establishments that pose a greater risk to the general public. DAYCARE CENTER INSPECTION The City of Duncanville has also developed a program that aims to protect the health and safety of those children who attend local daycare centers where food is prepared and served on site. The purpose of this program is to ensure that all food handling is done in accordance with the Texas Department of Health Rules on food safety and in accordance with local health codes. The city currently has fifteen (15) daycare centers that service over eight hundred (800) children each day. SWIMMING POOL INSPECTION The City of Duncanville's swimming pool ordinance seeks to protect those swimming in public and semi-public swimming pools. This program is to ensure that all public and semi-public swimming pools are operated in accordance with Texas Department of Health Rules for Public Swimming Pools. Swimming pools are monitored for good water quality and overall general sanitation. MERIT AWARD PROGRAM Food Service establishments that are involved in extensive food handling and preparation are eligible to receive the City of Duncanville Certificate of Merit after receiving two (2) consecutive scores of ninety-two per cent (92%) or above on their regular routine health inspections. The Certificate of Merit is designed to recognize those establishments, which demonstrate consistency in the area of Food Safety and Sanitation. The Merit Award is a reflection of the commitment demonstrated by the establishment. The City of Duncanville will continue to award the Certificate of Merit to those establishments that demonstrate a high commitment to public safety in the area of Food Safety and Sanitation.
